Prostate-specific antigen (PSA)

Total PSA for tumour screening and monitoring (normal and increased values) and total PSA for postoperative follow-up care (extremely low values – early PSAS) can now be measured using the same method.

Request
PSA, PSAS

The method performs measurements with an analytical sensitivity of 0.008 ng/ml and a functional sensitivity of 0.05 ng/ml in the range of 0.008-100 ng/ml.
An additional method for the lower measuring range is therefore no longer necessary.

Method
Two-step immunoassay based on the technique of the chemiluminescent micro-particles immunoassay (CMIA)

Test material
Serum

Standard
WHO

Minor, technique-related fluctuations may occur below the range of functional sensitivity.

Preanalytics
Blood sampling: always before a rectal examination
Storage of serum/blood: 24 hours at 2-8 °C; serum can be stored for longer periods at -20 °C.

Annotations
Analytical sensitivity is defined as the smallest measurable value that can safely be distinguished from 0.
Functional sensitivity is defined as the lowest measurable concentration with an inter-assay VC of 20 %.
